Original Deerington Application

• Link to Accepted Deerington Application: Here.
• Additional Adjustments to include: The main change that Deerington has brought for Maul is his ability to learn how to care for people. While when he arrived his interest in people was mainly to manipulate them for his own ends as he faked any real emotions towards how they were affecting him, he eventually found this desire turned into something for real. After losing his family, he was lonely, and sought to fill that hole in his hearts. To this end, he began training people on how to fight and generally interacting with the town at large for long periods of time. Characters like Usagi, Varian, and Xue Yang encouraged his better nature and tried to get him to go down a better path than the one he's followed all his life.

Despite his desires putting him on a path of redemption, it hasn't all been easy for him. With Maul, progress is measured in inches, not feet, and it's often two steps forward with one step back with him. He ended up doing several things like going on a murderous brainwashed rampage that strained his relationship with quite a number of people in the town as he killed and hurt many. Coupled with the fact he then mutilated Glitch by cutting off his arm when he came back and was suffering amnesia outright caused quite a few people to turn their back on him. It was also at this time that three witches, John Constantine, Luna Lovegood, and Willow cast a spell upon him that will prevent him from hurting anyone until he's able to show true remorse, something that will be arriving with him intact when he ends up in Trench. He's holding a grudge against the three of them because of it. At the same time, those that stuck by him had their relationships strengthened during this period and the arrival of many from his galaxy like his brother Savage and Obi-Wan Kenobi helped to put him back on the right path as well, though not without a few more bumps along the way.

He has had difficulty seeing that his actions have consequences and oftentimes paints himself as being a victim. This occurred most prevalent after Glitch and Ironwood sent out a post which turned many Sleepers' opinions against him, even those he'd never met. Feeling like he was being attacked on all sides and that his back was against a wall, Maul doubled down on being proud of what he'd done and refusing to accept responsibility for his actions, a running theme he's had trouble with his whole life. It was at this point that he came to realize he can't just do better for the sake of other people. That's not enough. He has to want to do better for his own sake.

Right now, Maul is still on the Dark Side, and always will remain there to some extent. He's not going to ever fully switch to the Light Side, for it's just not in his nature. But he's actively searching for ways to be a better person and lift the chains that have constricted his mind for so long. Now that he's just not doing it for others, instead doing it for himself, he's seeking a way to channel his rage and anger into protecting people rather than always hurting them.

Maul is being updated from the end of the canon comic book Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir to the end of The Clone Wars show finale, Season Seven Episode Twelve Victory and Death. Maul goes through a lot in a few short months. He's lost his family, the only people that ever cared about him, and subsequently he falls back on the one thing that has seen him through most of his life: getting revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi. He still has power as the ruler of Mandalore and uses that to engineer a civil war with the rebel Mandalorians led by Bo-Katan Kryze with the sole purpose of drawing Obi-Wan back to the planet. However, revenge is not his only goal here. Maul begins to be plagued by Force visions in his sleep centering around Anakin Skywalker. While they don't paint a completely clear picture, he sees enough to know that the crux of the war ending and his master ascending lies with Obi-Wan's apprentice. So as a nice "fuck you" to both Sidious and Obi-Wan, he plans to kill Anakin and deprive his former master of the prize he seeks in the Chosen One and cause Obi-Wan more pain by killing his apprentice.

Alas for Maul, as usually happens, things don't go according to plan. Caught up in a rescue mission, the two Jedi instead send Ahsoka Tano, former Jedi Padawan, to face Maul. This disappoints him greatly but he also sees an opportunity to use Ahsoka for his own ends. While it's clear he wants to manipulate the young Togruta, he's also sincere in knowing that if they combine their strength they still have a chance to stop Sidious. Ahsoka agrees until finding out that Maul believes Anakin is the key to Sidious' ascendence. Refusing to believe her master would ever fall, instead she duels Maul, and wins. Maul has a bit of a breakdown as he realizes he's going to be dragged back to Coruscant to face his master once again. He screams out to let him die, knowing soon everything is going to change.

Locked in a Mandalorian sarcophagus, Maul waits quietly, sensing that something major in the Force is coming. He and Ahsoka receive a near-identical disturbance as the balance of the Force shifts dramatically, likely due to both being attuned to their former masters, able to hear snippets of the conversation where Anakin joins Sidious and becomes Darth Vader. Sidious executes Order 66, during which the clones on board the ship try to kill Ahsoka. They're also about to kill Maul when Ahsoka unexpectedly rescues him. He thinks she's there to team up with him until she bluntly informs him he's a distraction for her. She tells him to go cause chaos, since that's what he's good at. And cause it he does.

Maul ruthlessly and silently kills the clones, hardly helpless despite the lack of a lightsaber. Many fall before he finally reaches the room where the enormous hyperdrive engines are stored. He brings them down, causing the ship to exit hyperspace and be pulled into the orbit of a small moon. Knowing the ship will crash, Maul steals a ship. Ahsoka tries to stop him, but when it comes down to stopping Maul or saving Rex, she chooses the latter, and lets him go. Maul takes off for parts unknown, once again proving himself a survivor.

The main change in Maul is that he's lost everything at this point. His family, his position of power on Mandalore, nothing is his to possess anymore, and worse yet his master's plan to form a galactic empire has come true. He's been brought to a pretty low point, but rather than wallow in sorrow, he uses his ruthless cold anger and frustration to tear apart the ship and the clones alike. Despite his momentary desire to die he expresses on Mandalore, he decides not crash with all the clones on the ship. Instead, he chooses to live and fight another day. He's still got part of his crime syndicate intact and so he knows he can rebuild again from the ashes the way he's already had to do several times in his life. However, with his home life in tatters, Maul is going to have a great incentive to stay in Trench and continue building upon the life he'd started to make in Deerington.

Chapter 2 Attributes

• Canon Powers: Force powers, explained on original app. He'll be keeping them and his blood powers will be weaker and harder to control.
• Blood Type: Vileblood
• Omen: A Maalraas of indeterminate gender named Vengeful Snuzzle, Venge for short. Despite being pretty much all teeth and looking like the stuff of human nightmares, they have the best of Maul's qualities including an intense, focused nature while still being open to advice and ways to improve, a protective nature for those they care about, extreme loyalty to those that are kind to them, and generally being more open than Maul himself. Their temper is still extremely vicious to behold and generally they are not one to be pushed around, in which case their stubborn nature reveals itself, and they dig their heels in if they feel they are being lectured or condescended towards.
• Blessed Day: August 3rd
• Patron Pthumerian: Mariana. Maul fits many of the personality traits of his patron including most prominently an unpredictable nature. Maul has always had many qualities one can predict but he also has just as many that make figuring out how any interaction with him will go. To quote her summary, 'she respects unpredictable nature and cannot seem to help her own and doesn't seem interested in learning how to control her emotions either. She doesn't feel ashamed for her emotions and doesn't believe anyone else should either.' This is Maul to a T. His entire life he's given into his emotions and let them rule his mind. While he's learning more about them, he doesn't want to really control them on any level. 'She has no real concept of consequences for your actions and mostly seems confused if anyone resents her for hurting them in the past. Yeah, she's not a good "person" by a long shot, but she's also not a person and is the Pthumerian who makes that the most obvious.' Maul also has trouble recognizing his actions have consequences and oftentimes has to have this pointed out to him, such as when he impulsively maims or kills people and then just moving onto his next goal without bothering to look back at the trail of corpses left in his wake. Maul doesn't consider himself a good person and will never try to be one, only looking to be a better version of what he already is. He's always going to be aligned with the Dark Side to some extent and doesn't look towards the Light as a possible solution. Mariana is in many shades of grey and so is he.
• Blood Power Manifestation: Maul's blood powers will closely resemble those of the Nightkin magick the female members of his clan on Dathomir were capable of, particularly those of his mother Talzin, and often are accompanied by a sickly green glow when he uses them. While his Force powers have always been geared towards offensive, destructive capabilities meant to maim and kill, in contrast his blood powers will instead be at their strongest when he's helping or defending people, instead being used to create rather than destroy.

His strongest power will be the ability to stabilize a mind, primarily by lifting madness, the mental components of blood corruption, or even beasthood if the beast can be held down long enough for him to work. This will be done in a quite literal manner where his hands are able to reach inside and pull out the parts of it that are diseased, which manifest as black smoke that dissipates upon contact with the physical world. This works at its strongest when he can ingest some of the blood of the person he is trying to help.

He will possess a few other abilities. Since these are all much more physical in nature, they will require blood to be spilled when he wants to use them, needing more the longer he wants to use them. This will lessen when he starts realizing they're primarily to be used to help people but the blood cost will never fully go away. One is the ability to form a green, translucent shield that can fit entirely around a person that can block energy attacks and anything moving past a high speed (around 300 mph), allowing it to block gunshots, but allowing anything slower and in the physical realm like punches, lightsabers, or other stabbing weapons to get through. This is at its most powerful when he is using it in defense of another person, using the shield to protect them from harm. He can also teleport in a cloud of green smoke, at first only a few feet but eventually building up to around a distance of a mile or so, but he can only do this when protecting someone from danger and getting them out of harm's way.

Lastly, with long practice, Maul will be able to create a voodoo doll that can affect another person. He will need a physical piece of that person to combine with the doll, whether it is a lock of hair, drops of their blood, or even nail clippings, though blood is ultimately the most effective. If he has this, he can make them feel nearly whatever he does to the doll, including stabbing it with needles, holding it over a burning flame, or making someone feel like they are falling from a great height if he drops it. Actual death will be beyond him, given a person's natural inclination to live can override such a distant form of magic, but he can cause plenty of discomfort and pain with this.
